Could the Legacy Ultra Lounge have provided more or better security to keep a 20-year old Orlando man from being shot and killed in the business' parking lot?

Could Kirkman Nightclub Have Kept 20-year Old Man From Being Shot, Killed?

I was sad to read this piece on the Newschannel 2 website reporting the death of a 20-year old Orlando man after being shot and killed in a local nightclub parking lot.  The man -- who remains unidentified -- apparently received a gunshot and died in the parking lot of the Legacy Ultra Lounge, near the intersection of Kirkman Road and Colonial Drive in Orlando.

Unfortunately, this kind of event hits kind of close-to-home for our law firm.  A couple of years ago we represented a nice young man who was shot while a patron of the Oasis Night Club -- which is located approximately one block away from the Legacy Ultra Lounge in the Pine Hills area.  Our former client was not the only person shot at the Oasis.  At least one person was killed there before our client, and two or three have been shot and killed there since our client's shooting.  Plainly, both of these clubs are in a dangerous area.

As an Orlando accident attorney, the question is "What are these nightclubs going to do about it?"  Florida law requires businesses who know or should know that their locations are frequently the scene of violence or crimes to take reasonable steps to provide security or safety to their patrons.  Businesses who do not take these measures can be liable for a negligent security claim.

It will be interesting to see if the media reports further on this shooting incident at the Legacy Ultra Lounge.  I would be curious to know what kind of security presence was in place, whether there were armed or uniformed personnel, and whether there were security cameras or other measures in place.
