Interstate 4 Crash That Killed Polk County Man Probably Could Have Been Worse

The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that a Polk County man was killed in a tragic crash that occurred while several vehicle were traveling westbound on I-4 last night in Hillsborough County.

Apparently the sequence of events started when the driver of a Crown Victoria veered from his location in the inside lane of the highway into the middle lane, side-swiping a Honda Civic being driven by Glen Burnison of Astatula.  The vehicles separated, but the Crown Victoria spun and came to rest facing sideways, blocking two lanes of traffic.

A 2002 Ford Explorer being driven by Janet Fones was traveling behind the other two vehicles, and apparently could not avoid the Crown Victoria and crashed into it.  Apparently, the driver of the Crown Victoria was killed in the crash, and the driver of the Explorer was seriously injured and taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center for treatment.

While my thoughts and prayers certainly go out to the family of the Crown Victoria driver, as an Orlando accident attorney I know that this crash could have been worse.  In my experience handling automobile accidents on Interstate 4, it is not uncommon for everyone in a high speed crash like this one to be killed.  While both of the other drivers in this crash received injuries, they (and their families) should feel fortunate that it wasn't worse.
