Uninsured Motorist Who Killed A Man Is Finally Identified By DNA

A former Ocoee woman, Tiffany Tweedy, was finally arrested after DNA evidence suggested that she was involved in a fatal crash on Apopka-Vineland Road in Orlando back in November.  On November 14, 2009, a motorcyclist was side-swiped and killed by a Chevrolet Suburban in a motorcycle vs. automobile accident.  The driver of the Suburban got out of the vehicle, removed the license plate, and fled on foot.  All that eyewitnesses could say was the the driver had mulitple piercings and had long hair.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers were able to salvage DNA from a steering wheel cover and styrofoam cup left in the vehicle.  This evidence eventually led to Ms. Tweedy, who was arrested at her new residence in Oklawaha.

Local media is reporting that Ms. Tweedy had no valid drivers license at the time of this crash.  This is horrible news for the survivors of this wrongful death victim.  Without a valid drivers license it is difficult to conceive of how this driver could have bodily injury liability insurance coverage to pay the damages caused by Ms. Tweedy.  Similarly, since the decedent was on a motorcycle, he will likely have no access to Uninsured Motorist benefits.  Unfortunately, it looks like the only justice that the family of the dead motorcyclist will enjoy is whatever is meted out by the criminal justice system.
