Many people do not realize that Personal Injury Protection (PIP) benefits can be used by pedestrians to pay their initial medical bills, as long as those bills were incurred as a result of an automobile accident. If the pedestrian owned a car in Florida, he would have access to PIP through his own insurance company. If the pedestrian did not own a car in Florida, or did not own a car at all, then the pedestrian could access PIP benefits through the driver that hit him. It is important to note that PIP benefits are payable regardless of fault. This is why they are sometimes called No-Fault benefits. Under Florida law, PIP benefits can by used to pay 80% of the injured person's medical bills, and 60% of the injured person's lost wages, up to a total of $10,000.00. PIP benefits can also be used to pay for replacement services and mileage or transportation expenses incurred for medical treatment. A person injured in any automobile accident in Florida should contact a Florida personal injury attorney in order to find out what benefits may be available. Many times insurance companies will not volunteer information regarding insurance coverage that is not obvious to the consumer.

My cousin was crossing the street on foot when he was hit by a car. He was taken to the hospital. How is he going to pay for his medical bills?
