Several Central Florida media outlets are reporting the death of a nine-year old child as a result of injuries he suffered when he was ejected from an S.U.V. on the Beachline Expressay, also known as State Road 528, in Orlando.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the child was riding with several other children and adults in an S.U.V. when the vehicle was involved in a one-vehicle rollover accident. According to FHP, the driver of the vehicle, Maria Dolores Cot, overcorrected due to traffic slowing in front of her.
Four adults in the vehicle were injured. Several of the adults and children were not wearing seat belts or shoulder harnesses.
The simple fact is: seat belt use can save lives -- not every time, but many times. There is nothing more tragic than the loss of child's life. This story should serve as a reminder that it only takes a moment to make sure that kids are buckled in. That one moment can save a life of heartache.
The Click It or Ticket campaign designed to encourage seat belt use runs until June 5, 2011.
