I recently read with interest a story on the Central Florida News 13 website concerning the safety, and perhaps the future, of the intersection of the Interstate 95 offramp and State Road 524 in Brevard County. A woman suffered a wrongful death on Labor Day when she collided with a sanitation truck.
The Cocoa Police Department has worked seven accidents at the intersection so far this year, and two of the crashes have involved fatalities.
Drivers interviewed for the story talk about not being able to see oncoming westbound traffic due to the location of the stop sign and stop bar at the end of the offramp. They report feeling as if they have to pull out further than normal in order to be able to properly see traffic.
At this point, police and others are wondering whether it is time to change the intersection. Apparently every other offramp coming off of Interstate 95 in Brevard County is controlled by a traffic light, not a simple stop sign.
As someone who regularly handles Brevard County personal injury cases, I will be interested to see what decisions are made regarding this intersection.
