Man Dies After Pit Bulls Dismember Him In Vicious Attack

Posted on Jun 21, 2011

Channel 6 in Orlando is reporting the tragic death of a Hawthorne, Florida man who died after being attacked by two pit bulls while he worked in the fenced yard around his home.  Apparently, the two dogs escaped from the yard of the man's next door neighbor and somehow made their way into his fenced yard.

What struck me was the particularly violent nature of this attack.  The dogs apparent pulled the victim's right arm off of his body, and tore off much of his left arm.  Additionally, the dogs mauled the gentleman's face.  The victim lost so much blood that he suffered brain damage.  He was taken to Shands Hospital in Gainesville, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

As a Winter Park dog bite attorney, and life-long owner of dogs myself, I know that it is not always fair to stereotype a breed of dogs.  However, after representing victims of vicious dog attacks over the last 18 years, I can say from personal experience that we see more attacks, and more serious injuries, from pit bulls than from any other dog breed.
