Orange County has voted to prohibit any new pain clinic from opening here over the next year. It is hoped that this move will keep pill mills from proliferating in Central Florida. Orange County Bans New Pain Clinics for One Year

Posted on Dec 08, 2010

Orlando's WKMG has reported that Orange County government has voted to prohibit any new pain clinics from opening in the County over the next 12 months.  This follows a busy 2010 for pain clinics throughout Central Florida, as several doctors and clinic owners were arrested and businesses were shut down due to suspicion about the clinics being so-called "pill mills".

Many of these pain clinics are being run as cash-only businesses, with drugs being dispensed or sold directly from the clinic, and not through a pharmacy.  Law enforcement officials are seeing more and more of these pills finding their way on to the streets.

Tragically, many families are affected by these clinics through prescription drug overdoses.  I have posted on this subject several times:  here, here, here, and here.

We hope this moratorium helps Orange County officials get a better hand on pain clinics.
